You’ll find more of everything in Newstead.

More shops, more restaurants, more fitness classes and more places to relax.

Newstead’s a hip and totally fun place to settle. Wake up early for your hot power vinyasa class at Total Fusion, then breakfast at Campos Long Island (the chilli scrambled eggs are delicious!). Catch the bus to the office and cruise home on a City Cat. Drinks with friends at Mrs Browns after work, then home to your easy-care apartment!

Saturday mornings you’ll find many locals at the Woolies at Gasworks doing their weekly shop. It’s complemented in the centre by The Standard Market Company, one of Brisbane’s best fresh food markets, whose fruit and veg displays are akin to a piece of art. They offer every deli item you could possibly conceive of, as well as a top range of delectable meats in their butchery.

On Sundays many of Newstead’s residents like to lunch. And there are plenty of places to do just that. Choose from Bar Ecco, The Defiant Duck, Mecca Bah or a seafood feast at Reef Seafood and Sushi.

And that’s how they roll in Newstead.

NEWSTEAD’S INNER SECRETS . . .

+ Wander down Newstead Terrace with your furry friend and at its northern end you’ll discover the beautiful Alice in Wonderland garden at Newstead House. Set amongst the carefully maintained, lush gardens of historic Newstead House, it’s a breathtaking part of Brisbane to enjoy right in your own suburb.

+ The Newstead Brewing Co is hardly a secret, but we’ll mention it here anyway. With a backdrop of a gigantic steel warehouse in one of Brisbane’s most popular suburbs, the vibe is strong here any night of the week!

+ After a couple of beers (see above), wander around the corner to The Triffid. A WW2 hangar conversion, it’s a masterpiece of industrial chic. There are several spaces to hang out – The Live Room where you can see all the best acts, The Beer Garden for a Sunday session, The Mezz Bar for quieter cocktails, and The Big Deck for a vista over the beer garden.

+ Retail precincts of Newstead include Gasworks, the Doggett St interiors showrooms and the gigantic Bunnings. There’s a medical centre at Gasworks too (in the Chemist), and the gift shop Ollie and Lloyd by Olive Home will solve any last-minute gift purchase problems in a snap.

+ Hey, have you heard of Hello Gorgeous on Chester St? The menu is sublime, and so are the drinks – go check this one out for yourself.

+ The Who’s Who of fitness facilities are all in Newstead. While we can’t mention everyone here, some of the standouts include Total Fusion, Harlow Hot Pilates and Yoga, and we love Yoga in Daily Life on Doggett St.

+ Of course, one of the other important things to consider is coffee! You’ve literally got a plethora of coffee houses here in Newstead. Some of our favourites include Campos, Kivahan, Salt Coffee Roasters and Grumpy Madam.

+ Where to live? In Newstead it’s mainly easy-care apartment living. Haven residents have Betty’s Burgers at the base of their building, while Unison residents have the Gasworks Precinct within a short stroll. While the folks that live at Lucent have an extraordinary level on onsite amenities (not to mention Total Fusion in the building, and Campos Long Island on ground floor).

+ Newstead residents can exercise their creativity at Work-Shop on Austin St. Participants can learn wild basket weaving, soy candle making, resin jewellery and sewing! (Plus much more . . . )

+ While you’re out getting arty, go and take a look at TW Fine Art. It’s a treasure trove of pioneering national and international artists – and their new space on Masters St is quite spectacular.

In a nutshell, Newstead is jam-packed with fine food and fun times! Bon appetit!
